TOOWOOMBA trainer Ron Maund was shattered in the immediate aftermath of Gold Edition's defeat in the Winter Stakes.

But 40 minutes later Maund's stocks rose considerably when Ice Chariot won the $200,000 Tattersall's Cup (2200m).

Ice Chariot, last year's Queensland Derby winner, and Gold Edition are owned in Victoria by Kevin and Tanith O'Brien.

"All I've go to do with the O'Briens is supply them quality entertainment," Maund said.

"Even though they live in Melbourne, they really enjoy Queensland racing. This [Ice Chariot] is certainly compensation."

Maund said he was concerned Ice Chariot's weight of 58kg would impinge on his chances.

"I always thought the 58kg was a big problem, but the raffle fell our way," he said.

"If you buy enough tickets you are always a chance."

Maund said Ice Chariot, which won for the first time yesterday since the derby just over 12 months ago, was a chance of backing up in next Saturday's $200,000 Caloundra Cup (2400m), while the $150,000 Queensland Cup at Eagle Farm on July 7 was also a possibility.

Jockey Stathi Katsidis pulled off the big double yesterday. His win on Ice Chariot followed hot on the heels of Nova Star's victory in the Winter Stakes.
